What is it?
The Challenge is a driving and navigational event with offroad sections, around varied landscape in Ireland's hidden corners. It's essentially a fund-raising treasure hunt, a mystery tour testing observation and navigation skills, with all the treasure going to charity.
Driver and navigator teams can enter in any 4×4 vehicle that is capable of negotiating off-road terrains. They arrive at a meeting point on Saturday morning with no notion of where they're heading. With a set of devious clues and tasks to complete, they take off on a voyage of discovery, which all ends with Ireland's 4×4 Oscars at a celebration dinner on Sunday night in a luxury hotel.

From left to right, top to bottom – the Saturday morning briefing, team cars checked and numbered, sets of maps ready for handing out, the drive is testing and exhilarating, wet as well as dry, the night nav route is plotted, and driven, and after the Sunday sections a luxurious dinner.
They'll need it after driving hundreds of miles through deep countryside, keeping their eyes peeled for marker boards and solutions to clues, with their driving, navigational and observational skills fully tested.

A team pass a marker board turned upside down by mystery team . . .
Different levels of experience are welcome and marshals provide full back up. The spirit of the event involves observing safety guidance and good environmental practice. Teams use Ordnance Survey Discovery Series maps, supplied by Ordnance Survey Ireland, one of the main event sponsors. They are also given a road book devised by the organisers.
