How Temple Street became the focus of the Challenge

Temple Street was chosen in 2005 as the focus of the Challenge by Jonathan and Robert as they crossed the Irish Sea on their way back from taking part in the Macmillan 4×4 event in the UK.

Since then the partnership has grown and staff from the hospital have taken part and, in 2010 even grabbed the top prize!

The hospital was established in 1872 as a hospital for the poor children of Dublin. Now under the care of The Sisters of Mercy, it is one of the major paediatric hospitals catering for children from all over the country.

Each year over 125,000 children attend the unit with over 50,000 attending A&E. It leads the way in a variety of medical practices – it is the national centre for the screening of newborn babies for metabolic and genetic disorders. It is the national centre for eye, neurological, craniofacial, kidney, airways and ENT disorders.

The Fundraising Office was established to raise awareness and funds for projects within Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The hospital continues to rely on external support to assist it in the purchase of vital equipment and to help establish and fund research to ensure continuing high care.
